As health and fitness have become a more crucial element in the classroom, recess activities can be employed to keep students active during the day.

Games that create teamwork and build upon trust are key ways to get students to learn to play together.

Dodgeball is a classic game students can play on the playground. Students would be able to choose their own teams and engage in battle. The activity is sure to bring students together while running around dodging the ball in an effort to keep them active.

A parachute can also be employed that would teach the students how to work together. Standing along the outskirts of the parachute, students would hold onto the implement with both hands and raise it up in the air, in an effort to engage muscles while imploring movement.

Games can be created within the parachute game, where students all duck for cover under the parachute, or run from one side to the other. The game would foster unison as students would have to time their movements together to keep it airborne or keep it on the ground.

Crab soccer is another game that would keep the students active while engaging muscles throughout their body as they crawl upside down on their hands and feet. The game employs soccer but in a unique way that will teach students how to contort their bodies to stay in position and engage muscle groups.

Other games such as tag, basketball, and red light green light would also be beneficial to students. Students can also vary playing basketball in a way that would help them with their fitness while also shooting baskets.

Jump ropes can also be used where students can work on their fitness and agility. Skipping rope would help them with their cardio, but they can also engage in such play as the game Snake, where kids would shake a rope as students attempt to jump over the rope without falling.

Other indoor games such as Seven Up, Hide-And-Seek, and Rock, Paper Scissors would help students with critical thinking skills.
